In one session, is it possible to defeat a teleporting necromancer and consume a bear? For long enough, anyone can pound trees to create a house. V Rising, a combination survival/crafting/action-RPG from Stunlock Studios, will address these and other issues after it exits Early Access. It’s a pretty nice game, but I’ve just been playing it because I love 2020s Castlevania crossover DLC bait. Do you need any pointers? I’ve got some over at Kotaku.
For the most part, V Rising is straightforward. You gain, while schmucks like me who write guides lose out. There’s definitely a tool or UI text in the game to assist you. But before you start playing, there are a few things to be aware of.
Observe the directions on the screen.
The tutorial for V Rising is always at the upper-left corner. That’s how you will advance, if you do at all. Though it might seem obvious, it’s simple to ignore screen noise and divert your attention. However, these instructions are necessary for unlocks; so, you cannot succeed without them.
Hiding from the light doesn’t have to mean giving up on anything.
V Like true vampires, rising vampires are against the sun. No, not like the existential fear I had when I saw the packed brunch lines during a visit to my friends in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. You will die if you stand in the light for longer than a few seconds. Although hiding in a coffin or running Mist Braziers initially appeared like the best ways to withstand sunlight, I discovered a few more possibilities.
Shadows provide for hiding. Depending on where the sun is, large objects cast shadows! If you’re feeling squirrelly, you can explore, locate boss fights, and gather resources if you play carefully. Remain near trees and large areas of land that can provide cover for you and allow you to quickly enter gaps. As stressful as it gets, it’s preferable than waiting and acting without acting at all.
Or perhaps set up tent in a cemetery! Several, one of which is toward the beginning of the game. Here, be safe and spend the day breaking apart skeletons to get bones. Although tougher cemeteries are more difficult to survive in, they produce Grave Dust. This is true for caverns and mines as well, although by then you ought to be an expert.
Steer clear of pickiness.
Blood type and a quality-based “class system” are features of V Rising. You’ll see a type (Creature, Warrior, etc.) next to a percentage when fighting. You can view your blood type and its bonuses on the menu if you eat them rather than killing them. You shouldn’t be alarmed by this at first.
Blood ingestion negates that percentage of quality. It is useless to consume blood before your bloodsucking avatar becomes thirsty because the effect is not cumulative. Early on in V Rising, passive bonuses that increase your garbage stats are less significant than survival and using Blood Mend to heal. Finding a deer or something with glowing bodily juice is amazing, but if you’re picky, you’ll go hungry. If you have to, eat rats; once you have a castle with a roof, windows, and furniture, dignity can follow.
Utilize V Blood rewards to monitor your advancement.
There is a ton of helpful in-game content and resources in V Rising. You can look at the products that a sawmill makes for various materials. Check the V Blood menu if you need anything and are unsure where to get it. The primary means of advancement in the game after the tutorial is V Blood. Battle a boss, sip their Boss Blood, and get access to new abilities, recipes, and other vital knowledge.
Additionally, check in advance. For the most part. As you go, the V Blood menu expands to reveal the bosses and their loot. You can’t look too far ahead because there’s a cutoff point, but if you want to make Cloth and don’t find it somewhere else, it will probably show up in V Blood.
Map is important.
Your V Rising map is a terrific resource for useful items. Your map is going to remember what you see. For cemeteries, mines, bandit camps, etc., this is extremely important. Static resources will be indicated on your map. The map indicates locations for ore, paper, skeletal anatomy, and other items. Paying attention to this will enable you to plan travel more effectively at any time.
